Rain taps a steady, calming beat on the roof above me; giving me a soft rhythm for my staggering heart to follow.   My heart stumbles and falls, tripping over its own reckless pulse; its beat too fast and chaotic to match the natural melody echoing through the empty house.   The silence is a blessing and a curse. It gives me an unaltered perspective on nature's delicate cadences and sonatas while I reflect on my own dirge; comforting me in privacy until I'm willing to share my own volley.   I fade away as I continue to listen to the steady drumming.   The dam has collapsed. I know this as I fight back the waterfall of tears through shaking hands too weak to hold still.   Through trembling fingers, pieces of my broken heart seep from the cracks. I cradling my head in shame only to drench my cheeks and chest in wet, silent drops of agony.   Too many emotions flood my veins and swallow my thoughts. I'm a failure, incompetent, unwanted, defective, and unloved. Words that are all wrong but yet, all true.   Their choir echo in the silent sobs of my crushed dreams and lost wishes.
